MUNICIPAL ASPIRANTS AND HONORABLE CRITICS.

; (Viclo English Bards and Scotch Reviewers. —Byron.) |j [To The Editou.] f Sir, —Respecting your sub-leader in | this morning’s issue X desire to state: 1. That I am pledged to support no I particular person or party. 2. That I am not- a member ot the 1 Progressive League: that I have- not been asked to subscribe to its platform ; I 'that I was not nominated by the League. 3. That notwithstanding the foregoing, X believe the members of the League to be actuated by a sincere desire- for the well-being of the town; 'hat 1 have read a copy of its programme, and find in it nothing to cavil at, hut much to admire. 4. I think you will recognise that in concluding that because the League, without any compact with me, honored *mo with its support, I was thereby, and “without more” a supporter of any 'particular individual or of any particular views, you were a little hasty. I trust that you will not regard this ns an unfriendly criticism of your action, and that, as there is yet time, ■you will review your conclusions. —I am, etc., ' JAMES R. KIIIK. [The legitimate inference deducted from the fact of Mr. Ivirk’s name being included in the ticket that was headed by Mr. W. I). Lysnar was that tho League considered him to be in sympathy with the present Mayor and his Views, in fact, a supporter. We merely stated that “tho names of the gentle■mejit who are also honored with the League’s hall-mark are also presumably to be regarded as Lysnar allies, but wo doubt if all of them will be proud of the distinction that is thus accorded them.” ' Tho fact that Mr. Kirk apparently objects to being included amongst the Lysnar “allies” seems to confirm our ’conclusion. —Ed.
