The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. MONDAY, APRIL 26, 1909. AN ODD DISCLAIMER.

“1 am not pigheaded,” was the naive assurance given by Mr. W. D. Lysnar to vhe audience which listened to him on Saturday night. His Worship proceeded to explain that lie was always ready to listen to any reasonable arguments, and to be guided by them. We do not doubt for a moment that Mr. Lysnar was perfectly sincere in making the statement. Unfortunately for the working out of this very laudable policy, the Mayor seems to be fated to associate with a lot of unreasonable individuals, and unreasonable persons are, of course, not at all likely to advance "reasonable” arguments. It is unfortunate that this coterie of foolish, illogical persons should always bo on hand to hamper Mr. W. D. Lysnar in his persistent efforts to serve his fellows. Whether it be on tho Cook County Council, the Borough Council, or the Harbor Board, lie seems fated to arouse the opposition of people who arc incapable of advancing reasonable arguments. 4 ‘Not understood” will surely be inscribed as Mr. Lysnar's epitaph for, at all times and under all circumstances, he fails to get that support which a fuller understanding of his plans would presumedly give. Even the Judge of the Supreme Court seems to be as fallible as the rest of us, and, after a recent law case in which a decision was rendered adverse to Air. Lysnar, he gravely exp'aiucd to the public that His Honor had not understood the case. It would seem that the community is blinded together in a vile conspiracy to thwart our energetic friend in his well-meant efforts ior tho public good. Or is it just possible that all these people who talk against him, vote against him, and work against him, are in the right and that it is he who Is really pig-headed and mi reasonable ?
