CHRISTCHURCH, April 28. Sir Joseph Ward arrived in Christchurch -‘yesterday, and went South by the second express. On Thursday he will go to Taieri. iHe will be present at a social gathering at' Mosgiel in honor of the Hon. T. Mackenzie in the evening. He will bo at Invercargill' on Friday and Saturday evening. In that city he •will deliver an important speech. He will remain in the Soutli until Tuesday evening. That evening he will leave for Wellington. Ho refused to. be interviewed at Christchurch, except in regard to the reorganisation of the Agricultural Department, stating that ho wo-uld deal with Ml prominent public questions in his Invercargill speech. Amongst these are the- offer of Dreadnoughts, the manner'in which lie intended to raise the- money, the financial position, and details of the system of military training. He intends to advocate retrenchment in the Civil Service. The ILon. T. Mackenzie, Minister in charge of the Tourist Department, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and went on by the first express to Balclutha. Mr Mackenzie, approached by a reporter, said he had nothing to communicate in the Avay of news. There were no- steps to report upon in connection with -the reorganisation of the Tourist Department. ■ It was probable that for some time" at least no changes would bo made. iHe said that lie had decided not to continue having a curator at Resolution Island. Mr Goldfinch., the curator at present, will therefore bo withdrawn, and his place will not be filled.
