PAMPERING LEGISLATION
The well-meant blunders of gui- labor legislation are responsible for the production of many shirkers and incompetents. Mr. Stracliey, the able editor of the “London Spectator,” reminds us that-“ Rome fell because ‘her-heart was stone,- apd her heart had become petrified because her people • had _ been ruined and pauperised by the insidious action of State Socialism.” A nation is only as strong as the spirit of the individualsl who compose. it, and Neyr Zealand will pay dearly for its so-called legislative advancement, if the ultimate result be demoralising of the spirit or •thd people.— •‘‘‘Marlborough' Herald.
