A “TRAVELLINO SQUADRON.”
WILL PROBABLY VISIT AUSTRALIA. w MELBOURNE, April 17. At the time Sir Percy Scott’s cruiser squadron was about- to start for the Cape, the Prime Minister of the day (Mr Deakin) sounded the Admiralty as to whether it could extend its programme of . visits so as to include Australia. The request was, owing to circumstances which were not made public,, not acceded.*to. By the last English mail, news was received that the Admiralty has included in, the latest readjustment of; the British navy the- formation of a -utravellijag squadron,” which is to be composed of as many of the modern vessels as can be spared from the regular fleet, and is to be available.for visits to oversea dominions.
The Minister for 'Defence to-day said he'had noticed with great interest the announcement. “If the travelling squadron be formed,” lie continued, “I feel very favorably disposed towards the idea that'it should be asked to visit Australia'at an early date. I think it would have an excellent effect. I will make a r recommendation on the subject at the -next ;meeting of ik.: CV.tod.. ’
