It is stated that Edward MoEwan, the chauffeur, into whose face Jeannie Smith threw vitrol, has lost the sight of both eyes, while his face is terribly disfigured. Smith entered a garage in Milton-street, Glasgow, and dashed a quantity of vitrol into M<; Ewan’s face With a shriek of pain the man rushed to a hosepipe and turned water on his eyes to alleviate the agony. The girl threw the vitrol bottle against a wall and ran away, but before she had gone many yards she produced a second bottle containing carbolic acid and drank the contents. She callapsed in the street in. great agony. MoEwan was placed in a taxi-cab to be taken to the infirmary. Outside- the garage the cab nearly ran-over the young woman, who was lifted in and taken to the hospital with her victim. Smith, who is 27 years .of age and strikingly handsome, has been engaged as a ballot dancer in a local pantomime. She declared that MoEwan, who is 20, had jilted her. MeEtfan says he was completely taken by surprise. He lived near Smith, and he had known her for six months, but denies that he had been '•courting her.” Even through his facial disfigurement he smiled at the Idea. He is still in* agony. Smith is recovering from her carbolic acid
