BURGLARY IN GISBORNE.
HOUSE BROKEN INTO IN RUTENE ROAD.
About ton o’clock last night the police station was rung up, aiid information given that- there was a burglar in the house of Mr. W. F. Cederwall. Rutene Road. Sergeant Hutton and Detective Rawle immediately proceeded -to the house, and there arrested a man who gave liis name as John Wilson. It appears that Mr. CcderwalPs housekeeper. Miss Eulth Holden, was proceeding home at 9.43 p.m., accompanied by Mr. Herbert Jones. When they got to the house they heard a noise within, and saw that a back window was open and that a bag of lime, which- had been evidently used as a stepping-stone, had been placed beneath it. The window opened into the .scullery, the door of which had been left locked, but was found burst open. Mr. Jones, on going inside, struck a light, and found a man in the house. The police, were immediately rung up, and Mr. Jones detained the intruder. Upon the arrival of the sergeant and the detective, the man was searched, and several email articles were found upon him which Mr. Cederwall subsequently identified .as belonging to him. The arrested man bad put liis billy and a sack into the house through the wiiv dow. Ho will be brought up at the Police Court this morning. He is a stranger to Gisborne, and stated that he had not been long in the country.
