GISBORNE FIRE BRIGADE.
ENTERTAINED BY MR. H. J. ANDREW. Mr. H. J. Andrew, bootmaker, of Gladstone Road, whose premises were recently preserved by the good work of the Gisborne Fire- Brigade from destruction by fire, showed liis gratitude to the members of the Brigade in practical fashion last-evening bv entertaining them at a smoke The gathering took place at the Brigade station, and was a highly pleasant- affair. -Mr. John Townlev, the veteran superintendent of the Brigade, presided. In a brief speech he- thanked Mr. Andrew for la’s kindness in entertaining the firemen. It, gave them all very great pleasure to know that their services were appreciated, especially in such a practical manner. Mr. Townlev urged the members of the Brigade to always do their duty to the utmost of their power.
Mr. Andrew also spoke, saying that ho was very grateful to the members of the Brigade for the work they had done on the occasion of the fire at his premises, and ho was very pleased to he able to show his appreciation. He felt that ho had reason to be thankful to the Brigade, for if his premises and stock had been burned he would have been a ruined man. During the evening refreshments were served, and a number of songs and other items wore contributed by various members of the Brigade.
