HALF-YEARLY MEETING

The half-yearly general meeting of the Poverty "Bay Co-operative Supply Company was held in Townley’s Hall last night, and was very well attended, over thirty shareholders being present. The vice-president (Mr. Oxenham) took the cliair, and read the following motion of condolence which the committee had decided to send to the Misses Sievwright—“That this eleventh half-yearly meeting of shareholders desires to express its deepest sympathy with the Misses Sievwright in their late sad bereavement in the great lossmf so kind, loving, and devoted a father. We further sincerely regret the loss to this district of so true and honorable a gentleman, who gave ungrudgingly a large portion of his valuable time in the'" interest of the peap'e. The report showed that since the last half-yearly meeting IS new shares had been taken up, the total number issued being 1141, on which £993 Os lOd had been paid up. The net profit for the half-year was £B6 14s Id, and discounts to the amount of £33 12s lid had been allowed on cash purchases. Also the section on which the store stood had been purchased, the £2OOO necessary having been raised on mortgage, and the jsjte of debentures. The election of a president for the Association then took place, and resulted in Mr. J. R. Kirk being unanimously chosen. Messrs Steele, Lawton, Kinder, and Avlward were elected members of the committee. . A number of suggestions from the shareholders were given to the committee. . , , c The meeting closed with a voce or thanks to the manager and staff, and to' the committee for the manner in which fliey had done their work during the half-year.
