A -meeting of Y.M.C.A. footballerswas held on Saturday night, when it was decided to form a junior and third grade team. Officers were elected for tho teams as follows: —Juniors: Captain, H. Hepburn; vice-captain, D. Hutton; selection committee, ea-ptain, vice-captain, and D. Miller. Third grade: Captain, T. McMillan; vicecaptain, S. Mill; selection committee, captain, vice-captain, and T. Riddell. NAPIER MATCHES. [Per Press Association.] NAPIER,. May 1. Tho Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union opened the football season to-day with a se-ven-a-side tournament, which was won by Rovers (Hastings), with Old Boys (Napier) runners-up. Harry Sargisson, a member of the Rovers team, had a leg broken during the play. CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The Canterbury Rugby Union’s competition started to-day in fine weather. The grounds were in good order. Old Boys (8) beat Sydenham (6); Christchurch and Albion drew (§■ points each); Canterbury College and Linwood drew (3 points each); Merivale had a bye. DUNEDIN MATCHES. (Press Association.) DUNEDIN, May 1. The football season opened in ‘plendid weather to-day. Dunedin (22) beat University (8); Southern (36) beat Koikorai (nil); A-lha-mbra (4) beat Port Chalmers (nil); Zingari-Richmond (3) drew with Taiori Rovers (3)"; and Union (nil) drew with Pirates (nil).
