INDUSTRIAL AGREEMENT A ARRIVED AT. LPim Pitisss Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. The agreement arrived at by the parties in the general laborers’ dispute has been filed. 4 memorandum to the award states th & it deals specifically with the building trade laborers, and is intended to' apply also to workers employed by local bodies, contractors, and quarry owners, and to workers employed by other employers when doing work similar to that done by the local bodies, contractors, and quarry owners. The conditions will not apply to any work done in the ordinary course of farm woi'k. The Christchurch Drainage Board is exempt from the' operations of the award as far as its permanent staff is concerned as long as it is working under the present conditions. A similar condition applies to the Timaru Borough Council. The agreement is to commence from June 4th, and remain in force for three years. It will also apply to the whole of the Canterbury . industrial distinct. In the tunnel works ine minimum wage of tunnel men and timber men is not less than Is 3d per hour; quarries—quarrymen, hammer and drill men, crusher men, spawlers, platelayers, asphalt miners, Is Id per hour; general laborers Is per hour; building works men in charge of derricks, all scaffold men in attendance on bricklayers, Is l£d per hour. In the Timaru award the words, “Men in attendance on bricklayers” are deleted and “hod carriers” inserted. General laborers will receive not less than Is per hour, overtime is to be paid at the rate of time and a quarter for the first four hours, and time and a half afterwards, and for work on New Year’s Day Easter Monday, Labor Day, Show Day! and Boxing Day, and double time on Christmas Day, Good Fridayand Sundays. ________
