WELLINGTON. May 3._ The following is the High Commissioner’s cable, dated ' London, May Ist. The mutton market remains very depressed. Prices have slightly declined for all grades, with the exception of Imht weight. It is reported, and 1 believe there is some foundation for.it, that North Island heavy weights sold ,^’2pi, ewes 2d per. lb. (The calne iT slightly mutilated). . The lamb market is very dull and the simply excessive. Stock isuaccumulating, and there is very httle prospect of advance in the lnaiket lor either mutton or lamb. The beef market is steady, and there .is a better demand, but the supp y meets the demand; hindquarters did, f°Thc abutter market is quiet but firm. Choicest New Zealand is at 100 s per cwt, Danish 108 s, Australian 98s, Argentine 98s, Siberian 965. The cheevse market is steady. Iheie •is not much demand huti the prices are firm; white 60s, colored 62s 6d. The hemp market is quiet. Small business is doing, and no immediate change is expected.
