STATE FARMS.
State labor farms, worked in 'connection with, the Government Labor Bureaus, would be of incalculable good. They would relieve distress, keep many out of prison, and provide a centre to which those needing laborers of any kind could apply, instead of waiting until they could pick up someone tramping the country.vhThe difficulties of conducting such farms as we are advocating are obvious, but they are certainly not insurmountable. Their complete success '. would —depend entirely upon the class of managers appointed to superintend tliefti. The. scheme is practicable; it would go a very long way towards solving the difficulty of charitable aid, and would, certainly obviate the necessity of making gaolbirds of unfortunates whose only crime is poverty and inability to obtain work which would provide them with lawful visible means of support.—Wairarapa "News.”
