OUR RAILWAYS.
We have in the North Island 400 miles less railway than in the South, yet the North Island railways last year yielded £92,000 more revenue than expenditure, while the South Island lines returned £83,000, with 400 miles start. It- will be no doubt necessary to connect the Midland line, but thereafter no more South..lsland railways should be built till at least the mileage in the North had caught up to that in the South. It is here that railways are most needed, and that they will pay most. —"Manawatu Times.” -
