Mr Mackenzie’s friends-find it is not a little difficult just now to reconcile the political opinions lie holds with the political associations he has formed. The settlers of the. Taieri may reason-, ah’v view with misgivings Ins presenct in a Cabinet which includes a Hogg and a Fowlds. Mr. Hogg,, they know, would deprive them ot tlieir land if he had liis way and pay them lor it with paper issued by the State, and Mi. Fowlds would make their land bear the entire burden of taxation of the country. As the settlers are aware, Mr. Mackenzie indignantly disclaims any sympathy with views oi , tins kind, which, indeed, he denounces vehemently as anv member nl Pailiamtnt does, but his constitutents are scarcely to be blamed if - they are somewhat concerned at the close association of their member with politicians who hold opinions on the land question such as are expressed respectively by Mi.
