Another of those social functions which go so far twoards brightens-.g the existence of country people was lieXl at Mr. Hood’s residence, on the \v aimoko, on Wednesday evening last. About 20 couples attended, and Thoroughly enjoyed a long night s dance, which was kept up with great spirit until' early morning. , The weather has settled at last, and it is a treat after the prolonged drizzle experienced here. The roads were badly cut. up, but with a few good days and a little westerly wind they may partially recover themselves before winter fa Crutchhig U U'ss started at Glenroy on Wednesday,, and farmers will be busy foa a while again fixing up their flocks for winter quarters. There is plenty of food, and all classes of stock aic doing well. Everything considered, the prospects of the winter are good.
