Of the races of the world, 600,000,000 are white, 700,000,000 yellow, 215,000,000 black, 25,000,000 brown, or Malayan, and 15,000,000 red, or North and South American Indians. It was reported in Christchurch some time ago that a shepherd on the Mount White station, Canterbury, bad caught a kea in the act of killing a sheep. Mr A. J. Dunbar, manager of the station, was commuiucated with by a resident of Christchurch, and lie (says the ‘‘Lyttelton Times”) has forwarded the following statement: —“J. Trumper, whom I have employed here for killing keas, informed me that late on evening, while waiting for birds on a hillside, a lamb passed quite close to him with a kea settled on its back. The lamb went for a short distance down hill and then stopped. Trumper shot the bird and examined the lamb, which was much cut about the back by the kea. ;I find that .the keas do most damage to stock in "the winter and spring, when thero are no native berries for •them to feed upon.”
