A DAY OF REST FOR POLICE FORCE. United Press Association—Copyright LONDON, May 7. A Committee of tbe House of Commons has reported in favor of one complete weekly rest day for the London police. THE GLASGOW MURDER. CASE. Oscar Slater has been sentenced to death for murdering Miss Gilchrist in a Glasgow flat on December 21. VICTORIAN PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS. The Earl of Crewe, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has consented to allow a month for the hearing of Victorian objections to the application of the Victorian pubic accountants for a charter to their Association. PARIS POST OFFICE STRIKE. PARIS, May 7. A fresh strike is impending in the post office at Paris. - The Government threaten to prosecute the new trade union, and is organising a great pigeon service throughout the provinces. The Lower House of Convocation of the Province of Canterbury, with seven dissentients, resolved that it is undesirable to alter the ornaments provided for by the rubric or to prohibit the two existing usages regarding communion vestures. Mr. Kendall, Sydney manager for the Huddart-Parker Proprietory Company, is dead. ' THE DEFENCE CONFERENCE. MELBOURNE, May 9. The Federal Government will be represented at the Naval Conference by Senator Pearse and Mr. J. C. Watson, who was Premier of the Labor Ministry in 1904.
