SUSPECTED SUICIDE
YOUNG-WOMAN FOUND DROWNED

THAMES, May 8. What appears to be a case of suicide has been reported to the police. Elsie Johnston, aged 23, the daughter of a Thames resident, left her home on' Thursday, and has not been seen since. On Thursday she was seen heading for the Ivauranga Valley, where there is a river, deep in places. Yesterday a note was found in a in which the girl oxpresed her intention to do away with herself. A search of the river was made, and the searchers found her hat and boots in the vicinity of a deep pool. The police are now dragging the river. It appears that the girl became despondent because she failed to secure employment, and her mind became unhinged. ?■ „ . , . Later. —The body of Elsie Johnson was found in the Kauwianga river this morning. Her skirts wore found near the water. There is no doubt that it was a case of suicide.
