LIQUOR LICENSE.

REFUSED TO GROCERY BUSINESS

WELLINGTON, May 8. At a specially convened medung of the City Licensing Committee an application for a wholesale license was made on behalf of Mr. Avision, a storekeeper. On the Committee expressing an objection to granting licenses to premises connected with a retail grocery business, Mr. Mentbath, solicitor, submitted that.the Committee, by refusing the license on such grounds, was virtually creatinga law instead of administering it. He intimated that if the Committee persisted in its refusal ho would apply to the Supreme Court for a ruling. The Committee adhered to its decision and refused the application.
