There have been catalogued to <late 46,4.20 bales, and 46,128 bales have been sold.

'higher for' greasy merino super, about 5 per cent to 7i per cent, higher 1 for merino scoured and greasy merino medium! Prices remain about the same for faulty wool. Sales gain firmness as they progress/’

WELLINGTON, Alay 10. The High Commissioner (Hon. AY. Hall-Jones) cables from London on Alay 8tli: There is no alteration in the mutton market since last week. The market is demoralised, and the supply exceeds the demand. On April 26 mutton was quoted as follows: Canterbury 3d, North Island 2stL The lamb market is steadier, with a • better demand. On account of the low prices the output is steadily increasing, but stocks are heavy. The current quotations are: Canterbury lamb 4§d, other than. Canterbury 4Jd, Australian 3|d. At a meeting of importers for the consideration of the unsatisfactory state of the meat, market, it was decided that nothing can he done, the position being caused entirely by the excessive supplies. There is a better demand for beef; hindquarters are quoted at 3id, and. forequarters at 2-Ri. Butter marker. Steady, and prices well maintained. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 101 s, Danish 109 s, Siberian 975, Australian 9Ss, Argentine 995. Cheese market: Firm; there is a small supply on hand. White makes 625, colored 645. The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing. Following are current quotations: Good fair grade on spot £23) fair grade on spot £2l los, fair currentManila on spot £2l 10s. The Alay to July shipments are quoted as follows Good fair grade £22 los. fair current Manila £2O 10s. Last week’s Manila output amounted to 26,000 bales. Tho stock held in London is 204 tons. Cocksfoot seed market quiet and uncertain. Buyers are not keen to do business in cocksfoot seed at_ present price of 7os for bright, clean 171 b seed. Wheat market: A r ery uncertain. Speculation affects the market seriously, and the prospects are uncertain, The market is firm at present. New Zealand long-berried wheat, on spot, ex granary, per quarter of '4961b, is 4os 6d; New Zealand short-berried wheat, ditto, 44 s fid. The oat market remains firm. New Zealand short sparrowbil! oats, ex granary, on .spot, per quarter ol oß4fio, is 265; New Zealand Danish oats,. ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3zoib, 20s. Bean market remains firnn owing to tho reduced supplies. New /eabind beans f.a.q (old crop), per 00-ltb, oos 6d. The pea market is firm, with more inquiry. Supplies do not meet requirements, and holders are firm. New Zealand partridge peas, per oo4lb, 47s bet. Wool market: Firm, at the advance. Hop market: Firmer, and stock is being .reduced. . , , The following shipments arrived from River Plate during the month of April: At Loudon, 190,516 carcases mutton, 48,058 carcases, lamb; at Liverpoo., 129,289 carcases mutton, 33,430 carcases lamb ; Hull, 7771 carcases mutton 1322 carcases lamb; Newcastle,- 23,33 b carcases mutton, 3165 carcases lamb; Glasgow, 2913 carcases mutton; Southampton, 8369 carcases mutton, 2470 carcases lamb ; Ireland,' 2495 carcases mutton, 335 carcases lamb; Caidirr, 13,450 carcases mutton, 1439 carcases lamb. Butter : Liverpool, and bouthampton, 13,289 cwt. TOLOGA BAY STOCK SALES. A sale of stock was held at lo'cga Bay on Saturday. Air. AY. T. Bruce (Williams and Kettle, Ltd.) acted as auctioneer for tho various firms who had yardings. The stock on sale consisted chiefly of cattle, which soul as follows: 19 weaners at 12s 6d, cows and calves at £l, bullocks (stores) £4, store steers £3 Is, 6 fat cows £2 7s 6d, 2< two-year-old heifers £1 7s.
