DRUNKENNESS AND VAGRANCY
William Sharp, a middle aged man, was charged with being drunk- on the main road at To Arai on Saturday last, and with being an idle and disorderly person. \ The accused p’eaded not- guilty. ■ Sergeant Hutton gave evidence that he arrested the accused at Te Aral on Saturday, and asked,for an adjournment until Wednesday so as to keep the man, who is thought- to be mentally weak, under observation. The application was grantecL ‘
James Turner pleaded- guilty to a charge of being drunk and disorderly in Gladstone Road on Saturday and with using obscene language. Sergeant Hutton said the man made' use of bad language in the street to a man and his wife early in the evening, and also had to be-put cut of a shop on account of his behavior. Nothing was .Jcnowii against him by the, police. The Mayor said the language ustyd was most objectionable and could not be lightly passed hver. A fine of £7 with costs'2s, in default two months’ -imprisonment would be inflicted on the charge of using bad language and a fine of £l, in .-default two days’ imprisonment on the charge of being drunk. James McC ready (Mr Barnard) pleaded-guilty, to an information that he did exposo vermiij-infect’ed sheep for :sale at the MatawHero, sale yards ,oh April Bth. , , _.7. - -. Inspector Boss said only a few of the sheep were found to be. infected. •Mr Burnaid said the sheep were dipped before being put on the train to be . taken to the sale yards and had got inflicted from the trucks. The • offence was merely a technical one and he asked that only a small'penalty be inflicted. It was not right that his client should be asked to pay-for.other persons’ carelessness. His Worship said that the explanation would be accepted and' defendant would he only fined ds with 7k' costs. / . . . i George Faulkner pleaded guilty to 'a similar information.'and said the- six’cp had been dipped. .
