GAMBLING ON LICENSED PREMISES.

A MAGISTRATE’S STRONG COMMENTS.

(Per Press Association.)

NAPIER, May 11. ■ At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Robert James Howard was charged withpermitting gambling on his licensed premises by allowing cards to be played for drinks. The Magistrate said* the evidence as presented by the police, was too inconclusive, and he did not feel justified in entering a conviction. His Worship concluded: “Cardshave been played in this hotel, and played for money by a _ boy 15 years of age. In my opinion this has been established. I can only say that the licensee who harbors boys of 15 years around his hotel is not fit to hold a license. With these remarks I dismiss the information.” !
