LONDON WOOL SALES.

VALUES STILL TEND UPWARDS

(From our correspondent.)

LONDON, March 25. The sales are fast coining to a close, and before many hours hence the second series will be a thing of. the past. This has been another glorious week in Coleman Street Wool Exchange, and every description is selling in favor of the grower. The week’s business lias been characterised by extremely keen competition, ‘the onslaught being greater, with more spirit and tone than we have seen since the memorable times of October 1907. Last Monday saw several new faces turn up for the first, time this series, these having stopped away in the hope - of seeing a slack finish. This additional buying power has had the effect o'f. further stiffening values all round, with the result that merinos are now. fully. 10 per cent over the close last January, fine crossbreds are. 10 to 15 per cent" higher, medium descriptions 10, and coarser qualities have now fully recovered the weakness of last week, and are -)d dearer than last series. Such results as these clearly indicate the st?i>ng market that there is, and everything is snapped up with rare avidity. "Greasy merinos are selling up to 14d per lb., and crossbreds for America are making up to loci, and it is simply useless for a man to put in a lot {lift IdT under full market values; Considering that this is the closing week of the series the catalogues have contained some really good wools, and withdrawn lots are even fewer than at any' previous, part of the series. The Continental section continues to operate on a very large scale, and has a good deal to do in lifting prices. Both the .German and French section, never seem choked, and are still buying as freely as they did the first week. America has bought on a liberal scale, and has taken quite as much wool as they did earlier in the series. The Home trade has been in the market for every description, and this week Yorkshire topmakersriiave bought more extensively than they did earlier on. Taking the series as a > whole, a splendid time has been experienced, and the sales are finishing with prices at the highest point of the series. The room is still a crowded one, and there are no signs whatever of any description dragging Sold by Messrs.
