HEAVY SEA IN THE BAY.

The local weather conditions yesterday were the reverse of favorable, and, owing to the heavy sea running in the bay, the operations of tendering the steamers were attended with a greatamount of inconvenience. Tho s.s. Waikare arrived from south, at about--9.30 a.m., and almost ns soon as she came to her anchorage the Tuatea was alongside, and. notwithstanding a nasty choppy sea, the work ot tendering her l.">0 passengers and their luggage was most expeditiously carried out/ and the Tuatea returned to the wharf at ■ 9.4-3 a.m. She went out again at 2 p.m. to tender both the departing s.s. Waikare and the s.s. Mahcno, which had just arrived from Auckland. In the meantime the wind, blowing from the south-west, had increased to the .force of a gale, accompanied by torrents of rain, and although it was not found necessary to make use of the basket apparatus, great difficulty was experienced in transferring the passengers to and from the tender. The work was finally carried out. successfully, and the launch returned to the wharf with tho incoming passengers from north at 4.20 p.m. Towards evening the wind moderated To a great extent, and the rain ceased, making the final trip of the Tuatea a. groat deal easier, although there still was a considerable sea running. There v.e -o only a low outward passengers, and the Tuatea returned to port at S.lo .p.m. The U.K.H. Co.'s Squall was detainee!' at Toiuua Bay ow ing to the rough weaitber, and the ketch Coronation was prevented from sailing for Tologa Bay and Auckland; while loading operations on the Shaw Savill Co.’s Waivvera in the buy were hampered to a great extern-.
