SYDNEY, May 13.
A teamster named Finnegan crawled into a house at Reefton suffemg flora terrible wounds on the head, bis condition beihg critical. He state ! that a Syrian attacked him with an axe, he supposed with the intention of robbing him. A heap of wood was collected near the scene of attack. It is believed the Syrian meant to cremate Finnegan’s body.- The Syrian has not been captured, though suffering from a shot wound inflicted by one of his pursuers. A man has been arrested in connection with the Reefton case. Finegan asserts that his assailant was an Englishman.
