At the Supreme Court, Alfred Jas, Cook ; a half-caste, charged with assaulting a Chinese, was found not guilty. - - In the May Hallet case, the .jury, after an hour’s deliberation, returned a verdict of not guilty. PRISONERS SENTENCED AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, May 14. A number of prisoners, who had pleaded guilty in' the lower Court to various offences, were brought up for Sentence tins afternoon. Thomas Henry Hillman, for forgery and uttering, received 12 months; Bert Jennings, for stealing a portmanteau, was sentenced to 12 months’; Tula Pei, a Maori, from Whakatane, was sent to gal for 18 months for forgery, and Maltia To Haiti, another Maori, got. 18 months for breaking and entering at Kaikohe. Other sentences imposed, were: Horace Lyford, robbery with violence at Gisborne, 2 years; Bert Dixon, forgery and uttering, 8 years; Percy Ashton, carter, forgery and uttering, 12 months; Arthur George Ho'ern and Victor Charles Herbert, breaking and entering at To Kuiti, 8 years; John Wilson, burglary at Gisborne, remanded for medical treatment; Alex. Stewart McKenzie, lo\vgery and uttering, 2 years; Audiow Wallace, breaking and entering at Ngarnawaiiia, 8 years; Aklen Murphy, assaults on boys, 10 years.
