LONDON, May 13

The land values’ duties were carried by 330 votes to 120. Mr Harold Cox, Liberal member for Preston, said there was no legitimate difference between the income derived from land and income derived from other sources. He derided the taxing of ungotten minerals, as being like tho taxing of a bachelor for the potential value of ungotten offspring. Mr Lyttelton showed the immense cost of the valuations. Tho money sweated off the owners, he said, would not go to the Exchequer, but to lawyers and surveyors. Mr Chamberlain and Mr Balfour hotly protested against “the haste of the Government in forcing the proposals througli the House of Commons.
