THE NEW ZEALAND BUSINESS.

SYDNEY, May 15
The A.M.P. Society held its sixtieth meeting to-day., The President said the Society was still making records. The interest earned during the year was £4 9is 4d per cent., a drop of Td on the rate of L 907, but the rate had hardened within the last few months.
Mr Johnston (New Zealand), in supporting the motion for adoption of the report, said the Dominion’s new business constituted a record. Comment on the financial position of New Zealand was not infrequent just now. It must he admitted the Dominion had not escaped the general trade depression, •which in some parts of the country had heen accentuated by dealings in land, agricultural, pastoral, and suburban, which could not possibly be justified unless by the beliof that whatever one paid some still more confident i>erson would shortly offer more; but on the Other hand the country had experienced a marvellously favorable season, yield-
ing rich prolific lambing, a heavy woo! clip, good fruit crops, and an abun-i-flant supply of milk. In. addition there had been a very important recovery in the price of wool. On the whole
he thought the conditions pointed to a general improvement, and a reasonable view was that the worst of the trouble was already over, and that with proper care there was no cause for alarm.
