IN A CRITICAL POSITION

NAPIER, May 17. - The uews concerning the auxiliary schooner Tuhara, ashore at Mahia, is not reassuring, though the men are all safe. The following telegram was received this afternoon by the Vairoa Shipping Company from Captain Tonkin, who left last night for the scc-ne of the stranding:—“Vessel’s position is very critical, fully exposed to westerly. * beino- wedged between rocas.close to cliff Ship is filled with flowing tide. Lost both anchors. Will try to patch bottom. Cargo must be jettisoned. Inform consignees. Tangaroa returns tonicht with particulars.” The Tuhara. which is almost a new vessel, is the property of a company She is valued at £3200. and is insured with the New Zealand Insurance CornSpan v for £1256.
