Paticulars are to hand of the 220yds. match between A. R. Postle, the Australian champion, and B. It. Day, the Irish champion, for tho championship of tho Avorhl. the Johannesburg Sundav 'rimes” gives tho following account of "the race:—“With the report of tho pistol tho Avell-known sweep of the Australian’s arms and the greyhound spring sent him almost into the air, well in advance of his riyal. Gaining a couple of yards like a flash, Postle ok mimed along, and apparently, realising liis advantage, slowly drew to the inside, of the tracTc, at the same time increasing his lead with a wonderful burst along the almost straight southern side. Tho sharp turn to the oast pulled him tip a little., and the five yards’ lead which ho had secured was reduced to two as tho Irishman sped straight north side. However the Australian again gathered hi.-} tremendous force, and finished amidst ii pealing thunder of applause, winner by three and a half yards. Tho time, 23t.ee., avus Avonderful considering the nature of the course. Day’s final effort Avas magnificent, but Postle Avas ‘all out* right to the finish. Determined to gain the coveted sash the Australian had gi\'en every ounce that Avas in him: to the race, and at the conclusion completely collapsed. He was at onco attended ’by his trainer and friends, and, after a rent-, Avas Led in a state of collapse io the drcasing-room.”
