THE SCHOONER TUHARA.

A TOTAL WRECK. [Pjje Press Association.] NAPIER, May 18. The auxiliary schooner Tuhara, of 97 tons, which was blown ashore while at anchorage at Kainikini near Long Point, Mahia Peninsula, is reported to be practically a total wreck. Captain McNafo remains near the scene of the casualty. The remainder of the crew arrived* in Napier this evening. STATEMENT OF THE CREW.^ NAPIER, May 18. E. Goodall and A. Newman, A.B.s, said that owing to the heavy sea and strong wind the Tuhara anchored in the bight of Long Point on Saturdaynight. Early on Sunday morning one of the anchors carried away. The engines were kept going full speed ahead, but the vessel dragged her remaining anchor. • This was lost at day-break, and the vessel was driven broadside on to tlie rocks, and she became fixed where she struck. The crew, who had put on lifebelts, managed to launch the lifeboat, and a line was taken ashore. The crew stood by the ship for a while, and then got their things and went to George Ormond’s station, where they were treated with great kindness. Goodall and Newman describe the sea as of a mountainous character, and say the crew had a- narrow escape. It was lucky for them that they were driven ashore in daylight instead of during the night.
