THE MAKAURI OAAIP.

The East Coast Mounted Rifles had a busy day at their camp at Makauri yesterday. In the morning the squadron, under Captain C. Hellier Evans, paraded before Lieut.-Colonel Bauchop, and were put through a number ■of exorcises. The parade was most successful, 64 men being present. In the afternoon the camp was visited by the Tlon. James Carroll and a party of friends, while a large number of visitors from both town and country, took .advantage of the liali-holiday to have a look at the small canvas town. There was a full muster of men in the afternoon, when the troop were put through some fine field work and acquitted themselves most creditably. In the evening a concert was hold, the officers and men combining to present a capital programme.'' The concert was (held in the large mess tent, and comprised the following items: Overture, “Dcwdrops,” Club orchestra; song, “Cupid is the Captain of the Army,” Captain Zachai iali; violin solo, Air. M. Cutlibert; recitation, selection from the late Mel. B. Spurr’s repertoire, Mr. Carr ;sohg, “For the King,” Trooper Cummings; selection, “The Orichid,” Club ' orchestra ; song, “The Beautiful Land of Nod,” Sergeant Barlow; song, “The Old Folks at Home,” Hon. Jas. Carroll; recitation, “Kissing Cup’s Brco,” Trooper English; selection, Club -orchestra; “God Save the •King!” k The City Band played at the camp during the afternoon. To-dav, at 2.30 p.m., the squadron leave camp for a field day at “Acton,’ Air. AY bite’s property, “YVaipora,” Mr. Black’s place, and Mr Williams property at WhataiipolvO, after which iho squadron will march through to .town.
