(Received May 21, 10 p.m.) United Press Association —Copyright,
LONDON, May 21
Speaking at the dinner to the Australasian press delegates at Ottawa, on Wednesday, whereat Australian wines were served, Earl Grey (GovernorGeneral) referred to the unanimity of both parties in Canada in their readiness to make* a sacrifice t 6 maintain Britain’s naval supremacy. While the Empire had become a solid unit on the question of defence, the patriotic spirit animating the great continent ’of Australia had attracted much attention, and the Labor Ministry s action 'in the matter of military training had proclaimed to the whole world that the 'honor cf the-Crown was as safe with the humblest sons of toil as with the proudest nobles. (Loud cheers.) The •offer of gallant New Zealand, with a population half of that of the province of Ontario, had caused the blood of 'every Briton in all parts of the world to pulse more buoyantly in his veins. (Cheers.) Sir Wilfrid Laurier (Dominion Premier), and Messrs Cunningham and 'Fenwick, of Now Zealand, also spoke.
