COOK COUNTY TRAMS.
TUESDAYS POLL
The poll to authorise the Cook County Council to borrow £30,000 to construct the Patutahi tramway will he taken on Tuesday, and as far as indications point, it is thought the proposal will be carried by a substanital majority. All the ratepayers who have' votes on the question in the various ridings are requested by the Council to go to the poll. During the meeting of the Council yesterday, Cr. White, saicl that ho did not think tho special rating areas had been properly defined. Some parts would benefit from the tram and others would not, and it was suggested that the Borough Council should have, been made a party to the loan. He agreed that the tramway was the only way to get cheap metal, and he would like to see the proposal cairied. The tram would ehielty benefit the borough, and if the poll was not carried the Council should not be discourag ed. Cr Sherratt said ho was sorry to near Cr. AVhite speak as lie did. The Council was pledged to the loan, and the trams would be a great benefit both to the county and to the Ixirough, and he hoped the. poll would be earned. Cr Lvsnar said lie thought the whole scheme ‘ should be reconsidered. He coukl not see what benefit the county was to get from the loan. The Chairman said the whole discussion was out of older, and was mere talk. The Council was now pledged to the proposal, and the poll had to be taken.
