CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE' .
A meeting of the. Executive Committee of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce was held at the Borough .Council, Chambers on Saturday afternoon. There were present: Messrs. J. Townley (chairman) T. E. Toneycliffe, J. R. Kirk, A. S. Wachsmann, W. L. Rees, C. J. Bennett, W. A. O’Meara, W. D. Lysnar, J. R. Redstone, J. B. Kells, and F. H. W. Traill (secretary). Mr. S. Cannon, secretary of the Wellington Chamber, wrote stating that steps were being taken to bring about a federation of tall tlie Chambers in the Dominion, with a view to enabling the voice of commerce to be heard with more effect, and for other obvious purposes. He would forward, later a. draft of the proposed constitution. The letter was received. Air. Cannon 'further wrote, enclosing the following resolution, adopted at the recent conference of Chambers of Commerce: “That this conference directs the attention of the Chambers of Commerce throughout New Zealand, to the congress of Chambers of Commerce of the Empire to be hold in Sydney in September of this year, and urged, that each Chamber should make a special effort to be. adequately represented at such Congress, as a recogniiton of the importance of the occasion.” On the motion of Air. Kirk it was decided to ask any visiting delegates to call at Gisborne on their way to Sydney to attend the Conference. Alessrs. J. B. Kells, C. J. Bennett, Toneycliffe, Wachsmann, and O’Meara were appointed a committee to prepare a table of trade discounts.
