ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
AX ASHBURTON FATALITY. [Per Press Association.] ASHBURTON, May 24. At the inquest on the body of William Sullivan, a single man,' who was found dead in the remains of his tent, which had been burned, at Ruapona. the jury returned a verdict that the deceased died through natural causes before the fire occurred, judging by the position in which the body was found and its appearance. A MAN KILLED. DUNEDIN. May 24. A man named George Trice, age t about 25, was killed this afternoon at Wilkie’s flour mill at Mosgiel. He wa„ in tlie employ of the city corporation, and it is supposed he somehow came m contact with a live wire. Dr. Wall, of Green Island, found that one of the hands of deceased was bu. jt, which gives rise to the surmise. Price i<s supposed to have come from Tapanui. A BOATING FATALITY. This morning three young men, who reside at Musselburgh,and whose names are given as Wilson, James Alorris, and Gto. Kempton, went out in a “flatty” on Lake Waihola. The water was rough, with a rough tide, and presently their boat upset and threw them 1 into the water. They clung to the side of the craft, which turned over several times, and Kempton disappeared. Tlieir lilighi, was observed by the stationmaste*’ (Mr. Cockburn), and with his assistant (Mr. A. Bavnberry) he went outin a small boat to the rescue. They reached the men just in time to save Alorris, who Avas quite exhausted, and held them on the side of the boat until a larger boat arrived. Kempton. Avhose body has not yet been recovered, was about 18 years of ago.
