EXCITEMENT IX A FACTORY. At a white-work factory in Ballarat, a youth, James Tipping, was in the act of placing a holt over a small pulley wheel .to start some of the machines when his sleeve caught in the bolt, and he was pulled upward towards the ceiling. His sleeve ripped, and, catching the iron, support- of the pulley, he hung on and yelled lustily for help. The excitement created amongst the 200 girls employed in the factory was intense, and quite a number of them, believing that- the youth was about to he torn limb from' limb, fainted. Two of the gills, however, who were not overcome by alarm, promptly switched the electric current off, and stopped the motor.
