It was also resolved that the Government be asked to connect the_W,aikirere quarry with their railway line. It was decided that the whole Council should, if the weather is suitable. 1 inspect the Gentle Annie quarry next Tuesday, with the object of considering the opening up of that quarry for a. metal supply for the borough, and of removing the hoppers from the present quarry to that at Gentle Annie. With the view of facilitating the working of the latter, it was decided to request the Government to give a grant for the purpose of metalling the small portion of the road between the quarry and Gisborne which is still unmetalied. The 'length of this section of road is roughly estimated to be about three-quarters of a mile. The Council will supply the metal for the purpose from the Gentle Annie quarry at its actual cost.
It was also decided that a deputation consisting of the Mayor and Crs. Collins. Pettie. Harris, Kirk, and Maynard should wait upon the Hon. Ja>. Carroll to seek his assistance towards getting the grant for metalling referred to. and also in regard to Government assistance for the Waihirere scheme.
The question of connecting M hataupoko with Ivaiti by bridge was also favorable considered by the Council.
The question of providing recreation grounds was also discussed, and itwas decided that the Council should await the report of the committee already set up to consider this matter before taking further action. The Council also considered the question of submitting all the works proposals to an engineer before they are submitted to the ratepayers for their final consideration, blit it was thought advisable to leave a decision on this, matter open until next committee meeting. The Council was unanimous on the , necessity of street loan proposals, and r' so far as these have been carried the ’ discussion has been of an entirely amicable nature.
