THE TEACHING PROFESSION.
It is really a question for consideration whether teachers should not be appointed similarly to Government officials in other departments of the State. It barmens at times that a teacher with little experience' comes through the Lwversity and gets a good appointment where the teacher with large experience is set- aside. A little canvassing ability often proves a better open sesame to appointments than teaching experience or scholarship. With the appointments made by the Government there would still be abuses, but probably fewer than the present system allows. The. education question, both from the point of view of the need for more male teachers and generally from the point of view or classification and promotion, wants further consideration. —“Westport News.
