DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS.
[To Thu Editor.]
Sir, —As I was reading in last week’s paper about the destruction of rabbits I thought this would help the Poverty Bay farmers along if it was the case that it were ever required in this district for poisoning rabbits. At different times the same, thing has been tried and remarkably good results have been secured by spreading slices of unnoisoned apples for two or three nights in <a locality infested with rabbits, and then, when the animals have become accustomed to the new food, placing apples sprinkled with strychnine on the same ground. The method of poi-Hn-in.g in to cut the apples into slices with knives and forks, and to sprinkle the, slices with strychnine out of a metal caster, in order to avoid touching the bait with the hands. One ounce of strychnine shoud be used to about 121 b of .apples, and also quinces and pears may be used for this purpose instead of apples, which proves a great success.—l am, etc., F. J. HARDY.
