HARBOR BOARD REPRESENTATION.
[To the Editor.] gjr,—At the meeting of the Harbor Board yesterday afternoon a communication was received asking for remit?for the annual conference. The Board decided that the only thing requiring consideration was the lengthening or time between the receipt _of nominations and the elections. Sir. to mv mind they might well have urged the importance of decreasing the number of Government nominees on the Board. At the present time the Board is two short-of‘its constituted strength, and both seats were he’d hy Government -*Xp nominees. I- refer to those held by the r late Mr. Sievwright and Mr. G. Mat - thewson. The latter. I understand, will be an absentee for close, on two years. I should imagine, as is usually the case amongst members of public bodies, he would have handed m his resignation before his depaiture. i < present seems an opportune time tqr obtaining better public representation, and I should imagine the matter c.m he taken up by the Chamber .of Commerce, if such body attaches any importance to the proposed alterationTrusting the matter mil be to gotten.—l am, etc., ••Etjt-
