ASSESSMENT COURT.

INVEROARGILL VALUATIONS

(Per Press Association.]

INVERCARGILL, June 1

The sitting of the Assessment Court ended rather abruptly to-day. Of ten objections heard on Monday eight were sustained, and reductions made by the Court. At the request of the Government representatives the Court considered to-day the valuation of several important Tay Street xiroperties, and reductions were ordered. This indicates that in the opinion of the Court the general level of the valuations was too high, and that probably reductions would be made in most of the cases remaining. Mr. Dugdale (valuer) stated that owing to the reductions made, he would recommend a revision, and asked for an adjournment that he might communicate with the Valuer-General. If the Court adjourned, he would ask his chief for a reconsideration of the properties of all those who did not appear, as it would be manifestly unfair to reduce the values of those who came forward and to leave the properties of those who did not come, forward as they were at present. Personally he thought it not at all likely that the roll would Ire made satisfactory for this year. The Court was accordingly adjourned sine die.
