RAINFALL IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, June 1. The total rainfall recorded in Auckland for May was 4./J. inches, as against 0.88 inches for May, 1908. AUCKLAND VITAL STATISTICS. During May 2-57 births were: registered at Auckland, as against 230 for the corresponding period of last year; 79 marriage licenses were taken out as against 77 for May, 1908, whilst the deaths fell front 114 to 93. CUSTOMS RETURNS. The Customs duty collected in Auckland in May was' £41,429. _ against £47.-578 in May last year. While the imports are • decreasing, the exports show a steady increase, notably in gold silver, gum, meat, and timber. Wool shows a decrease, but this is due to the main clix> having been shipped earlier this year. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 1. The Customs revenue collected at this port for May was £3196, as against £3095 last year. WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION MINE. WAIHI. June 1. The drive through the Empire lode at No. 5 level of the Grand Junction mine is still continuing. The extent of ore is 60 feet. AN ERRING CYCLIST—MULCTED IN DAMAGES. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 1In the Magistrate's Court to-day Henry Todd, a young man, was mulcted in damages £SO, and costs £6 1-N, as compensation for injuries inflicted on Mrs. Mary Jones, with whom he collided on a "recent Sunday night while cycling down bill on a footpath without a' light.
