A PRESS ASSOCIATION REPORT.

ITS ACCURACY CHALLENGED

Prior to the ordinary business of the Borough Council last night, the Mayor referred to the Press Association report of the proceedings of the last meeting of the Borough Council, which had been sent to all the papers in the Dominion, hie thought it only right to bring the matter under their notice a.s an unwarranted reflection on both Councillors and Mayor. The meeting had been an unsuually heavy one, and Councillors should be applauded, not reflected upon, . for their desire to get through work. The report wag erroneous, and lie 'felt that it wa| wrong for the Press Association‘reporter of Gisborne to send such a message. Cr. Collins said he was pleased to hear tile Mayor’s remarks. He said it was unfortunate that such a message -containing a misstatement of facts should have gone throughout the Dominion. The meeting had been lengthy, but there had been no matter of Councillors being at loggerheads with the Mayor. He was extremely sorry that such a statement had been circulated. He moved as follows: —"That this Council desires to state that the report of the Press Association sent forward under the date of the 19th May from Gisborne is not a correct statement of fact when it states ‘that a section of the new Council is at loggerheads with the Mavor hence, the protracted proceedings.’ The Council further wishes to emphasise that s\e>h circulation is contrary to the into’’ c \pf the Councillors and Mayor, a* Hhis resolution he eommunicat sj - Association.” G- , Cr.
