CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the. Charitable Aid Board was hold last evening. Present : His Worship the Mayor (chairman), Messrs Kirk, Clayton, Pettie, Smith, Harris, and Dr. Collins. < A letter was read from Dr. A. P. Coker again asking for pyament of his account for professional services rendered to one Rose Kerwin. Dr. Collins said that Dr. Coker had been under tho impression when ho was called in that as the police had called him, ho would bo paid. Tho Mayor thought that as there had boon some misunderstanding, they perhaps ought to pay Dr. Coker £2 2s. After further discussion, the Mayor s suggestion was adopted. The foTowing report was received from tho Visiting Committee: “I have the honor to report that tho case of a man. and liis wife was investigated as authorised and arrangements have been made whereby they go to Hobairt, where they havo friends. They were also assisted by the church. In the case of a man it was agreed to allow 15s per week in rations, and a woman was granted a like amount. A patient aged 60 and his wife have been assisted to the extent of rent /s and rations Bs, subject to confirmation by your Board, A sailor and a youth, being stranded here, were granted a steerage faro to Auckland, where they have relations. Ouo man, "who was in the Wairoa Home, appears to have been shipped up hero without any notice being given. In tho. meantime 1 have ordered liis admission to the Home. A woman .has been temporarily sent over from the hospital, but docs not scorn to be a suitable case for this institution. A man of 48 years, who has been in the local hospital, was yesterday admitted to the Home. I have visited the Old People’s Home, and should recommend that a bath-room bo added to the women’s ward, as there is no obstacle to erecting a suitable place at the hack, adjacent to the tanks. A hot-water supply is perhaps not an immediate’ necessity, hut is coitainly desirable, and would save much trouble and work. As nearly all the hods are oocunied, I should recommend that further provision in tho way ol six extra beds and bedding be made. \V. Lissant Clayton, Visiting Committee for the month.” Hr. Clayton pointed out the necessity for the installation of the bathroom, and other suggested improvements and additions. , , ~ Members were agreed that the additional beds were essential, and the report was adopted. The question or the now bath was referred to tho incoming V’siting Committee, with power to act, The Inspector-General of Hospitals forwarded ruled forms for use m bookkeeping. The Custodian -reported as follows: “Number of inmates end ot last month 14, admitted during month 4, discharged 1; number remaining m Homo, 17. Gifts of books, periodicals, fruit and vegetables were thank iiilly acknowledged from .various donors. Accounts amounting to £I.SU Zs uu were passed for payment, and Mr. 1Holden and Dr. Collins-were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
