VALEDIGTORY.
[FAREWELL TO FIREMAN H-ING-
STON.
Thc members of the Gisborne Firo Brigade gathered at the Brigade Station last evening to bid farewell to Fireman Hingston, who will leave tomorrow for Vancouver. Superintendent Towniey presided, and on behalf of the members of the Brigade presented Fireman Hingston with a handsome gold signet ring, suitably engraved. In wishing him goodbye, the Superintendent expressed the 'hope that the departing member wouid sometimes think of Gisborne when bo got away to Canada, becauso 'he was 1 sure that ho could not go to any better place than their own tight little island. Foremen Wildish and Thomson, and Fireman Lowndes also wished him every ■ suoecss in his future life. Fireman Hingston shortly replied, | thanking the members for their kindness to him. His idea in going to Canada was to gain knowledge, but lie i would never forgot his associates in i Gisborne. ' - Before the gathering broke up, Supt. Towniey also presented Secretary Lapidge and Fireman Ferguson with a gold ring each as a mark of appreI ciation from the members for the good work that had been done by the two membsrs. The recipients suitably thanked the Brigade for their kindness in remembering their past deeds, which they had always felt it a pleasure to perform. Fireman Wildish, who was the recipient of a life members’ medal, also thanked the Brigade. During the evening musical items i were contributed by Firemen Fraser, Davey, Ledger, Westwood, Russell, | ‘Peterson, R. Wildish, and F. Lowndes.
