For the match between the Australian team and the Cambridge University eJevn, the weather was bright at the start, but became windy and dull at 4 o’clock. There were 3000 spectators present. Mac Alister won the toss, Trumper and Bardsley opening. A fine partnership ensued. A total of 50 was rattled on the beard in 25 minutes, Trumper driving to leg and hitting all round the wicket, while his off driving was brilliant. The first wicket fell for 122. Bardsley batted for 75 mnutes ; His score included nine fourers. Ransford' and Gregory each made a brief stay. The third wicket was down for 142. AVhen Trumper had reached atotal of 81 he was/’nearly stumped. Then he played back to slow balls, tiie Sydneyite playing excellent cricket. Hartigan and Macartney were got out cheaply. The fifth wicket fell for 162. Trumper, after a chanceless and brilliant innings, was taken by Tufnell, wide on the ofF side. He batted foi 160 minutes, and made nineteen fourers. Six for 228. Mac Alister was playing a. steady game. A splendid right-handed catch at second slip disposed of Carkeek, and the eighth wicket fell for 248. Mac Alister showed faultless play. O’Connor, by vigorous hitting, brought the third century up.
