POVERTY BAY CLUB.

SECOND DAY

The opening meeting of tho Poverty Bay Coursing C-ub was concluded yesterday in beautiful weather, and in the presence of a fairly large attendance of spectators. Some good coursing was Avitnessed, but, unfortunately, a number of the hares released were rather weak, and there was a fairly large percentage of kills. A feature of the meeting Avas the success of the locally OAvned dogs, and Messrs W. and E. Morrow achieved the unique distinction of 'winning both events on the card with their fine pair, Senorita and Romany Lass. The slipping was decidedly better than on the’ first day, and the. decisions of Mr J. B. Lopdell, the jxidge, Avere again unquestioned. The following are the results: MAIDEN STAKES. —Third Round. —

J. Gribble’s Miss Winnie (7) beat LaAA r and Morse’s Miss Hilda (4). Morrow’s Senorita (5) beat T. Cahill’s Spearmint (3). H. Kinnimont’s Lord Minto (13) heat F. Clarke’s Lord Bathurst (9). M. Were’s On Top (5) beat Geo. Mill’s Miss Advance (4). —Fourth Round.—

Senorita beat Miss Winnie. On Top beat Lord Minto (after an undecided course). W. and E. Moitoav’s bk and bd b Senorita, by Blacknose —Ripper (6) beat M. Were’s f and w d On Top, by Spoor Hill —Jessamine and won the stake.

GISBORNE PARK STAKES. First dog £l2, second dog £3 —First Round.—

After the decision of the Maiden Stakes cheers Avere given for the oAvners of the Avinner and runner-up. The stakes Avere paid over in Mr. C. Morse’s saloon last night. A meeting of the committee was also held, when it was decided to inflict a fine of £L on the OA\ r ner of the dog. Gold Crest, for allowing his dog to run on the ground and kill a hare Avhile another dog Avas running a bye. The secretary explained that this action Avas taken in order to demonstrate, that the club wishes to suppress any cruelty in the killing of the hares, except in circumstances where it is unavoidable in a course.
