SUPREME COURT.

A CIVIL SUIT. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, June 5. A civil suit has begun at the Supreme Court, G. Selbie suing J. and C. Shaw and J. A. Manchester, separately and jointly, for £IOOO damages for the loss of liis daughter, aged 3S, killed by a street accident during the last Timaru show. There are three solicitors for plaintiff and two for each defendant. Mr. Solomon, K.C., is leading for Mr. Selbie, Mr. Stringer, K.C., for Mr. Sliaw. and Mr. Raymond for Mr. Manchester. Briefly the circumstances for the plaintiff were, that Mr. Selbie and his daughter were out driving slowly out of town on the middle of the road, when young- Shaw, driving a fast trotting stallion, came down a steep grade, meeting them at- a fast pace. The trotter swerved and brought the vehicles in collision, locking tho wheels. Both the Selbies were thrown out, and as Miss Selbie was getting up. Manchester’s car came along and knocked her down. She died from the injuries next day. Plaintiff claims that Shaw was negligent in driving to®, fast and Manchester in not pulling up, as he had plenty of time to see that am accident had happened.
